Words have the unique ability to rouse infinite emotions out of the human psyche. They are powerful beyond measure. Carefully crafted sentences and stories can create feelings of utter joy, cause laughter, instill fear, and even fill one with despair.
I look to words for inspiration – often reviewing my favorite quotes and passages from my favorite books in times of reflection. I’ve selected some of my favorite quotes to inspire and motivate my readers (and myself) in all of our endeavors.
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”— Elizabeth Gilbert, (Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear)
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”― Frank Herbert, Dune
“Do not stop thinking of life as an adventure. You have no security unless you can live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of competence.”― Eleanor Roosevelt, The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt
“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”― J.K. Rowling
“My Mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”― Maya Angelou
“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”― Ella Fitzgerald
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it’s yours.”― Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”― Martin Luther King Jr.
“You never fail until you stop trying.”― Albert Einstein
